There are many different types of food packaging materials. Commonly used packaging materials include polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, plastic composites, metal, glass, and paper.

Plastic packaging is widely used because of its excellent transparency. Special additives added to the packaging not only protect food but also provide moisture-proofing, antioxidant properties, radiation protection, and deodorization. Plastic packaging also attracts attention for its low production cost, light weight, and ease of processing. However, the environmental hazards of plastic packaging are becoming increasingly prominent, with issues such as white pollution, landfills, and incineration requiring our attention.

Metal packaging is highly effective in protecting food, offering moisture-proofing, oxidation-proofing, and corrosion-resistant properties. It is suitable for canned foods with long shelf lives. Boxed foods are mostly made of paper, which is more environmentally friendly. However, the preservation and moisture-proof properties of paper packaging still need to be improved.
